Frankie Strand grew up in Essex, in a sleepy village with no shop but a direct train line to East London. Influenced by the bustle of markets, gigs in moody dive bars and the mysterious ethereality of street art, London played a huge role in shaping her ideas about a career in art. Observational drawings of people, plants, specimens in museums, and architecture formed a basis for Frankie’s developing illustrative style.
Frankie’s roots in Graphic Design and Illustration provided a foundation for her to develop her practice in street and mural art. Drawn to the sense of presence and public reach inherent in murals, her designs grew in scale and ambition; adopting spray and emulsion paints as her preferred medium. The ability to reach people, catching them off guard with unexpected joy or causing pause for thought, is something that has always drawn Frankie to street and mural art.
Spanning over a decade, Frankie’s career has seen her grow into an international artist, working with brands such as Sky, Squarespace and YesColours and with artwork nestled around the world from Sri Lanka & India to Sweden, France, and beyond. Perhaps most notably, Frankie is known for her flamingos, which have erupted on street corners and boarded-up shop fronts worldwide.
Frankie now works regularly with a team of trusted creatives, helping bring her large-scale mural installations to life. Working alongside environmental charities such as Greenpeace and Reclaim the Power, Frankie’s work seeks to bring about positive change, framing issues such as deforestation and deep sea mining in a digestible and accessible way.
